The days are long but the months are short…

I can’t believe that we are already at the end of January. Where does the time go? After a recent hiatus from writing, it was pointed out to me that the Indy stories were missed, so here we are again!

Recently, my son messaged me to let me know he would pick up Indy in approximately 90 days. Initially, I thought, wow 90 more days…but then I reflected that 126 days had already passed and, therefore, we were beyond the half way mark!

It’s been about 4 months since Indy was dropped off to live with us, while my son serves our country and we’ve been making the best of the challenges and loving the attention this dog gives us. Indy is a cuddle monster and would climb onto your lab every minute of every day if she could.

I recently came across this meme on facebook and it made me think of Indy and how she must be viewing her time with us. On reflection, the meme is pretty accurate of the time it took for her to settle into the routines of our busy lives. Although, I’m pretty sure when she hears a vehicle in the driveway she’s waiting for it to be her daddy.

I’d say that she is starting to feel like this is home. She’s learned a few more manners and is working on a few others. She sits at the door and waits for the “ok” before exiting the house, she’s better about not jumping out of the car without permission, and for the most part she comes when we call/whistle for her.

Indy typically goes to daycare once a week to stay social and occasionally socializes with the other dog on the property. She regularly tears apart her stuffy and managed to destroy a “tough” new xmas stuffy in literally 10 mins 😦

Each day that passes is one day closer to her being reunited with her person, and one more day closer to me not having dog hair on everything. Life is bittersweet and although I might complain a little, I’m sure I’ll miss her when she’s gone. I wonder if she’ll miss us?
